WBO World Super-Lightweight Championship

On Friday night live on ESPN Maurice “Mighty Mo” Hooker defended his WBO World super-lightweight championship against Alex “El Cholo” Saucedo. The fight took place at the Cheasapeake Energy Arena in the hometown of Alex Saucedo Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Both fighters entered the bout with undefeated records; Maurice Hooker with 24 wins 3 draws 16 wins by knockout and Saucedo with 28 wins 18 coming by way of knockout. The bout started at a fast pace with both fighters trading shots. Saucedo gained the upper hand in the 2nd round scoring a knockdown and controlled the next few rounds. In round 6 Hooker dominated landing many big right hands and caused the left eye of Saucedo to swell. In the 7th round Hooker scored a knockdown because Saucedo was held up by the ropes. The referee stopped the bout shortly after the knockdown awarding a TKO victory for Hooker.

In the post fight interview Hooker paid respect to Saucedo, then he was joined in the ring by undefeated WBC World super-lightweight champion Jose Ramirez.


Alex Saucedo still has a long career ahead and will get more championship opportunities.

    But now I’m interested in watching Hooker vs Ramirez. What are your thoughts on how that fight will go?
