Heavyweight Action Miller/Dinu Post Fight Breakdown

Saturday, November 17 boxing action took place in Wichita, Kansas streaming live on DAZN.

Fight 1

In this bout we saw junior middle-weight action between Brandon “Bam Bam” Rios and Ramon “Checkmate” Alvarez older brother of Canelo Alvarez. This war began with Alvarez out landing Rios by 25 punches in the 1st round. In the rounds to follow both fighters began trading big shots equally at a fast pace until the end of round 8. At the end of round 8 Rios landed several big shots that left Alvarez barely standing. In round 9 Rios came out and landed more big punches and the referee stopped the bout in 38 seconds.

Fight 2

This fight saw flyweight action between the hometown up and comer 22 year old Nico Hernandez and Josue “Zurdo” Morales. Hernandez entered the bout with 5 wins 0 losses with 4 wins coming by knockout, his opponent 25 year old Morales entered the bout with 8 wins 7 losses and 3 draws. The first 4 rounds were a competitive chess match with both fighters picking their shots. In round 5 Hernandez began to open up more throwing more punches and playing to the crowd. Nico Hernandez won via unanimous decision.

Co-Main

The co-main event featured female middleweight action between Claressa “T-Rex” Shields and Hannah Rankin of Scotland for the vacant WBC World title and the World IBF and WBA titles held by Shields. The bout began with Shields looking to establish dominance by landing power shots and Rankin boxing with finesse looking to counter. Claressa Shields won via unanimous decision.

Main Event

The main event saw action between two unbeaten heavyweights, Jarrell “Big Baby” Miler took on Bogdan Dinu of Romania. At 6’4 315 pounds Miller went in with a 78 pound weight advantage and Dinu at 6’5 had a height and reach advantage. The bout began with Miller looking to press the action by coming forward and Dinu looking to box behind his jab. Dinu won the first 3 rounds by using his reach advantage landing more punches, but during those rounds Miller landed some power body shots. In round 4 Dinu slowed down and Big Baby picked up momentum landing powerful combinations led by body punches. Miler won the bout via knockout scoring 2 knockdowns in round 4.

Summary

Brandon Rios looks like he can make another championship run.

Nico Hernandez could be a star in the making.

Claressa Shields wills soon be number one pound for pound.

Jarrell Miller should be challenging for a World title in 2019.

  1. Thanks Richard I missed the fight and wanted to know what happened, I really thought Bogdan would have miller but I was wrong.
